"Fate has its own way in making you find your true love."
Min-woo was about to get married to his college sweetheart,
Un-hae, when she died in a car accident. Her heart was given
to Hye-won who's been having heart problems for years. After
the transplant, she became sparkly and more contented with
her new life. Jung-jae, her boyfriend, couldn't be happier.
Un-hae's death hit Min-woo so hard that he has to escape
reality to get over his grief. He went to Italy to study.
There he met Jung-ah, Jung-jae's sister, who's head over heels
in love with him.
After long years of being a prisoner of the past, Min-woo
came back to Korea to pursue his dreams of being an architect.
When he visited the mountain he and Un-hae usually go to,
he accidentally met Hye-won who sprained her ankle and got
lost. They spent the night together while he tries to attend
to her needs. During their stay, he recognizes the similarities
Hye-won and Un-hae have. On the other hand, Hye-won is engrossed
with the feeling she is having every time he sees him. Her
heart beats uncontrollably for no reason at all.
Jung-jae's into hotel and resort business. He was impressed
of Min-woo's artistic designs so he hired him to be their
project architect along with Hye-won, who is an excellent
florist, as the production designer.
Min-woo's memories of Un-hae's came to life through Hye-won's
personality. His feelings towards Hye-won started to develop.
He tried to suppress it assuming that she is happily engaged
to Jung-jae. As they worked on the project, they eventually
built an undeniable connection. But because they are both
in a complicated setup, they denied their attraction to each
other. Without their knowledge, Jung-jae suspects that there
is something more than to their professional closeness. Due
to insecurities, Jung-jae pushed through with the engagement
earlier than what's planned.
Min-woo tried to forget Un-hae thinking that Hye-won is the
only reason for loving the second time. But he has to let
go of her to avoid conflicts. On the day of the engagement,
Hye-won fainted because of too much emotional baggage. She
can't seem to bear getting married despite of being in love
with another man. In the hospital, Jung-Jae learned that what
they know about the donor's identity is all a misconception.
He investigated on it and to his surprise, the donor was Min-woo's
first love. While waiting for Hye-won to wake up, Jung-jae
confronted Min-woo regarding the special attention he is giving
to her fiancee. He advised him to distant himself and lay
low until Hye-won comes back on her feet. He threatened that
he'll say the truth to Hye-won if he doesn't do what he wants..
Min-woo got confused to whether he really likes Hye-won or
he is just reminded of Un-hae. He considered all his uncertainties
and left his feelings behind. Hye-won got better but wasn't
in her usual jolly self. She kept on waiting for Min-woo to
come back. After giving it some thought, Min-woo decided to
fight for Hye-won and went back to her with confidence. They
both tried to overcome all the obstacles they are getting
into. But Jung-ah and Jung-jae didn't give up in breaking
them apart. They made Hye-won think that she would forever
be behind Un-hae's shadow. Out of fear and guilt, she broke
up with Min-woo and tried to get back to Jung-jae instead.
On her wedding day, Min-woo secretly went to see Hye-won
before his flight to Italy. Hye-won felt the unexplainable
heartbeat that she usually feels when Min-woo is around. She
spotted him but fainted when she tried to chase the car he
is in. He was taken to the hospital again, but this time,
her medical condition got worst. She needs to have a major
transplant even though there's no assurance that she'll live.
Hye-won turned down the idea. She knows how hard it is to
recover after the transplant and she doesn't want to undergo
in that process again. Jung-ah tried to persuade her but no
luck. He asked Min-woo to talk her into it. Since Hye-won
really cares for Min-woo, she agreed to do it under the condition
that he'll leave her for good.
Min-woo went back to Italy to continue with his studies .
He received a letter from Jung-jae telling that Hye-won died
after the operation. But the truth is, Hye-won got an artificial
heart and she doesn't want Min-woo to know it. She fears that
when they see each other, her heart won't beat for him anymore
because it wasn't Un-hae's.
Three years had passed, Min-woo came back to Korea. Hye-won
was informed although decided not to see him. But fate really
has its own mysterious way. When Min-woo is on his way to
attend a meeting for another project, Hye-won is in the same
place he is. They didn't see each other in the crowd but when
they passed by, they both felt the unexplainable heartbeat
Hyewon used to feel for Min-woo not because of Un-hae's
heart but because of LOVE.
Since Summer Scent was my very first Korean series, I don't
know what to expect from it. It was already halfway through
when I started watching. On my first episode, I was too much
preoccupied trying to understand what might have happened
in the previous scenes. It's even harder because of the subtitles.
Eventually, I was able to get a hang of it. Before the series
ended, I've became a certified addict!
What I liked about the series is the story itself. The conflicts
and how it was implied was kind of new to me. It's more on
a love story with a big bang at the end. I didn't get bored
watching it. What's more appealing about the story is that
they didn't try too hard to make it look complex. I'll say,
just at its best - not too dragging, not too deep.
The acting is good. It gets to me. In every episode, I always
end up crying. It's like, the roles were specifically made
for them. I liked the way they dress too. It suits their personality.
My sister wants me to turn down the volume since I don't
understand the conversations anyway. For some weird reason,
I can't seem to concentrate without the music on. Even if
the lyrics are in Korean, I really appreciate it. The melody
is moving. I get very emotional when they play the soundtrack
while Song Seung-heon gets teary-eyed. Oh, how nice to look
at.
Overall, it's a nice series for first timers or people who
are suckers for tear-jerking stories. It's classy and unique
in its own way. It's a feel good drama, sort of. I don't care
what people think, I just like it as it is.
Yoon Seok-ho's previous works, `Fall Story` and `Winter
Song`, have caught eyes of viewers in Southeast Asia as well
as at home with beautiful scenery of Korea. While they are
love stories set in secret of birth and amnesia, the new series
will be about a woman`s implanted heart remembering its old
love. If viewers compare `Fall Story` to brown color and `Winter
Song` to white, `Scent of Summer` will be green. The series
will be mostly set in Muju Resort, Boseong green tea farm,
herb farm, tree garden, Goheung Peninsular and isles off the
West coast, quiet places covered with trees. "Their eyes
look so gentle," Producer Yoon made a short answer to
the reason for casting Song Seung-heon and Son Ye-jin. Especially,
this is the second time for Song to appear in his dramas following
`Fall Story,` suggesting that he was aware of the popularity
of the drama in the Chinese culture. In particular, Muju Resort,
which is stagnant compared to the time of its opening in 1990,
is actively supporting the shooting of the drama. It will
remodel the real main buildings and change the lightings in
order to promote the reality of the drama, in which the interior
designer Song and florist Son renovate the resort. To the
question why he skipped spring and made a drama for summer
he said: "There is a saying, `Spring days go by,` but
I`d like to say they will `come.` I started dramas with autumn
and I wanted to finish with `hope.` That`s why I spared spring."
IWEEKLY [excerpts from Singapore Magazine]
Perhaps appearance does create amazing changes to one's overall
persona. Song Seung-heon, with his hair of blonde curly hair,
seem like a changed man with the air of reckless and manly
feel totally abondon the tragedic shadow of Autumn Tale. It
has been two years since then, now with a commanding price
5 times more than before, there should be some changes to
the person himself .
"Ah, I am older by two years. I was younger when i was
filming Autumn tale. Now I am more mature. This is the second
time I am cooperating with PD Yoon, so I am more comfortable
and at ease. And also my hairstyle is different. This is the
first time i dyed my hair since I was born though, intially,
I dont feel comfortable with it. But as more people said that
it suits me, I now feel much better. "
"Son Ye-Jin has beautiful eyes that make me more easiy
to create the emotions required."

DIALOGUES AND QUOTES
warning: may contain spoilers
If as an adult, my heart still beats,
I want to have the saddest and most beautiful love in the
world.
If as an adult, my heart still beats with that person I love,
I will ran along all of the roads of this world.
If as an adult, my heart still beats,
for sure I in a bright rainy day like this, I want to meet
the person I love.
[ JUNG-HAE TO MIN-WOO ]
What kind of girl do you hold dear to your heart? When I look
at her (hye-won), my heart brightens up. She's that kind of
girl. There's an angel who makes my heart brighten up. If
the love you are talking about is a love of a past, I'd like
it if Jung-ah could take her place. If the scar is big, an
old love isn't always a good thing. New love is also good.
[ HYE-WON ABOUT THE PROPOSAL ROOM
]
When people come into this room, I'd like them to have love
in their hearts. Not worrying about hurting the people around
them, not worrying about the future of their love, not pondering
"Why am I finally meeting you now? I'd like that.
When people come into this room, with a loving heart alone,
everything will be forgiven and I'd like it if people could
say they love each other here. This room, I would like this
room to be a room for people who love each other.
HYE-WON: I got a new life and
a cheerful personality. I should be so grateful to the heart
donor. That's why I need to live two lives.
MIN-WOO: You should fulfill that
person's life and love.
MIN-WOO: Do you know how alcohol
and love are similar? They make you intoxicated.
HYE-WON: They make you lose control.
MIN-WOO: Sometimes, they give
you courage.
[ HYE-WON, AT THE CHURCH ]
Mom, dad, I'm sorry to have disappointed you. But I'm happy
so please forgive me. For the first time in my life, my heart
raced. For the first time in my life, I met the man who made
my heart race. I promise, we'll be happy.
[ HYE-WON TO MIN-WOO ]
I want to know more about you. All about Un-hae too. Don't
try to forget about Un-hae for my sake. Don't forget those
memories. Tell me about Un-hae. That way, we can both keep
her memory alive.
HYE-WON: I got my transplant
in summer. I was reborn in summer. So I've always been thankful
during summer. But I'm beginning to dislike summer. I wish
time would fly and it would be winter. And when it snows,
the snow will cover everything.
MIN-WOO: I was so happy to have
met you this summer. But I guess you don't feel the same way.
HYE-WON: It's not that. You know
how sometimes, when you're so happy, you feel sad. Because
I met you this summer, it was so overwhelming. I feel a little
sad too.
[ MIN-WOO TO HYE-WON ]
Okay, I've treated you so wrongly. I thought I'd have to make
it up to you over a lifetime. But I never thought you didn't
love me. I have so many shortcomings. But you said you'd love
me the way I am. You said you'd love me as your heart told
you to. You said when you see me, your heart starts racing.
Yet you deny that you love me?
[ MIN-WOO'S THOUGHTS ]
The reason I loved Hye-won was because of the sadness in her.
The reason I was hurting was because I saw that she was sad.
Why couldn't I tell Hye-won this?
HYE-WON: They say you're lucky
to have one transplant surgery. I can't hope for that kind
of luck again.
JUNG-JAE: Just trust in me.
HYE-WON: I don't believe in probabilities.
I just hope to be able to walk on my own till the day I die.
JUNG-JAE: No, you have to have
the surgery. I'll make sure you have the surgery. I'll make
sure you live.
[ HYE-WON TO MIN-WOO ]
If Un-hae was like the sunshine for you, you were like the
sunshine for me. Because of your sunshine, I was very happy.
For your sake, I'll have the surgery. But, for my sake, you
should leave me.
[ HYE-WON ON FATE ] You know what scares me the most? It's the fact
that I no longer have Un-hae's heart. What if when I do see
him, my heart doesn't race? I'm sure my heart won't race.
Then it means that the love I've cherished will all be a llie.
What if the love that existed between Min-woo and me is a
lie? That would be too sad. So I'm not going to see Min-woo.
And I'm just going to go on. And I'll wait. This time, I'll
wait for the person who really makes my heart race. That's
what I want.
When I see you, my heart starts racing before I even realize
it. So this is love.
