STORYLINE: A "hillbilly"
Bong-soon saved Joon-won's life when he was found unconscious
near their house. What she doesn't know is that he is the
President's son who was intentionally not introduced to the
public due to confidentiality. Out of gratitude, he became
her guardian when her grandmother passed away.
It was hard for Bong-soon to fit in. A lot of people take
advantage of her ignorance. Luckily, she met Bong-ki, a security
personnel of the Blue House, through Joon-won. Although his
being obnoxious drives her crazy, she has no choice but to
bear with it so she could have a place to stay at while looking
for her real parents.
An old picture is the only proof Bong-soon has of her family.
To her surprise, the man in the picture is the President.
In as much as she wanted to tell him the truth, she can't
seem to find the right timing. Instead, she applied to be
a chef at the Blue House so she could be closer to who she
thinks is her dad.

SPOILER ALERT :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
As she works her way to the President's heart, she found
out that Joon-won, who she fell in love with, could possibly
her brother. She also learned that he is already married and
has a child. Being deprived of the truth made her enrage but
after knowing his wife's mental condition, she started to
feel for him. She distant herself and decided to forget about
her secret admiration.
Bong-soon may be broken-hearted but it didn't stop her for
seeking for the truth. She finally found the courage to tell
the President. To her dismay, she was told that he is not
the father and that her real mother abandoned her to his care.
The reality made her change her mind in finding her true identity.
Surviving the hardships and shocking truth made Bong-soon
more mature. Bong-ki finds her determination and strength
very impressive. But since he thinks that she is still hang-up
with Jong-woon, he just tried to be there for her even if
he is in pain. His unselfishness paid off when Bong-soon finally
acknowledged his intentions more than a friend.
REVIEWS:
KOREANCRAZEE The problem
with a longer series is that it tends to become dragging.
With the slow pace and dead scenes, it feels like a lifetime.
I can't wait for the highlights to come. If not only for Eugene
and Ryoo-jin, I wouldn't even start watching it. And having
to see Min-ki make a fool of himself didn't help much. He
overdoes his acting. When he is guilty and about to get caught,
he stutters like a geek. Even his facial expression and laughter
is irritating. The kid portrayed more efficient than him.
Good thing, towards the end, I get to appreciate him more.
He improved and became less of everything. Maybe he is more
capable in drama than trying so hard to be cute in comedy.
I get to see his good looks and acting at last.
There are a lot of people involved. I can't seem to keep
up. I find other characters unnecessary. Some brag too much
that they are creating their own stories. There are a lot
of cooking scenes too. Is it Jewel in the Palace Part Deux?
It's nice to show culture but they go into details too much.
Even the fights as who the best chef is have taken more episodes
that it should have.
From time to time, I find myself crying especially when the
characters have no control of the situation. I often get teary
eyed with So-young's scenes. I pity her too much. On the contratry,
during the Bong-ki and Bong-soon romance, I feel their happiness
and love.
The last 4 episodes have the best scenes. It has gone better
and more interesting. But it is annoying how they edited it
(aired in the US). I know I 'm missing a lot of good stuff.
And worst, they could have taken out the romantic dates or
scenes of the Bongs. I wanted to see more of them together
as lovers to know how their chemistry worked out.
I liked the adlib scene at the end. Its very unexpected and
even Eugene was surprised with what Min-ki did. They were
comfortable with each other. It looks like the series made
them closer.
HEE-UN I really enjoyed
this drama. This is going to be up there among my favorites.
It was truly unlike every other Korean drama I have seen.
It had a love story, yes, but it seemed as though that wasn't
the exact main focus of the drama. It had so many different
characters and stories and those stories made it truly unique
and truly enjoyable to watch. And there was not one character
that I wasn't impressed with as they developed through the
series. I may have to go back and watch it again just to catch
all the different storylines, underlining meanings of scenes
and dialogues and just to be impressed all over again.
I loved the development of the Bong/Bong relationship. Bong
Gi started out as such a selfish person on the outside, but
we soon saw his true self, revealed through the scenes with
Bong Soon. And Bong Soon's slowly developing feelings were
fun to watch, mostly because she was in denial until the end,
but her development was really impressive as well.
I was really impressed with Lee MinKi's performance. He was
the best one in this series. He was great at comedy and also
really good at the touching, heart wrenching scenes. His performance
made me laugh and cry multiple times. I hope to see more of
him in dramas in the future.
MARCI This drama encompasses
the lives of workers and residents at the Blue House (The
Korean presidential residence). The main focus is country
bumpkin: Bong Soon who's life drastically changes when she
decides to move to Seoul after the death of her grandmother.
Because of unfortunate circumstances she moves in with an
all male roommates who work for the president of Korea, one
a handyman, one a director of affairs and one an all important
presidential guard. Guard Nam Bong-Gi is almost always harsh
and critical of others, and never takes his job seriously.
Youngshik (president's son), Mr. Chang is the opposite, taking
his life too seriously, always trying to avoid notice while
trying to care for his sick wife. Bong Soon soon enters both
their lives, taking them both on a journey of self discovery,
learning just how important and precious life is. The story
also focuses on characters working in the presidential kitchen,
other guards and other unforgettable characters. I really
enjoyed this drama. This is going to be up there among my
favorites. It was truly unlike every other Korean drama I
have seen. It had a love story, yes, but it seemed as though
that wasn't the exact main focus of the drama. It had so many
